Sivuvalo/NolitchX is pleased to host U.S./Icelandic poet and scholar Randi W. Stebbins, co-partner in the project with Ós Pressan, who will share her poetry as well as her experiences as an active writer, cultural promoter, and editor in Iceland. José Luis Rico (MEX/FIN) and Roxana Crisólogo (PER/FIN) will offer a brief introduction of Stebbins’s work and conduct a Q&A about the stakes of collective writing and multilingual publishing in the Nordic realm.
The event will be conducted in English.
The poetry reading will be in English and Spanish.
Randi W. Stebbins embraces several careers, countries, and languages, which all have shaped her writing, teaching, and coaching. Stebbins writes at the margins between science and society, logic and love, and sound and poetry. Her work has appeared in the exhibitions We are Ós/Þetta er Us (Reykjavík and Akureyri) and Art Gamers (Iceland and Poland), at cultural events, and in the publications CV2 (Canada), Swooping in and Pulling Out (Iceland) and Ós-The Journal (Iceland). Randi is a founding member of Ós Pressan and served as the chair of the board of directors from 2015 to 2018. To get a glimpse of Randi’s work as editor and cultural promoter, visit Ós Pressan.
José Luis Rico (Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, 1987) is a poet and translator. He is the author of the poetry collection Jabalíes (Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2015) and two chapbooks, Blanco (La Dïéresis, 2012) and Duna (Fondo Editorial Tierra Adentro, 2013). His translations into Spanish include work by Bill Mohr, Edward Myers, Annie Ernaux, Michel Butor, and Ludovic Halévy. He has been awarded fellowships by the Fundación para las Letras Mexicanas, the International Seminary for the Development of Young Translators, the Chihuahua State Arts Council “David Alfaro Siqueiros” Fellowship Program, and the New York University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where he completed an MFA. Awards for his work include the National Poetry Prize for Young Writers “Guillermo López Muñoz”, the Chihuahua Prize for the Arts and Sciences, and the National Prize for Young Poets “Francisco Cervantes Vidal”. José is currently a Young Artists Program fellow of the Mexican National Endowment for Arts and Culture (FONCA).
